Thank you to our friends at Malvern Way for inviting us to a Jubilee Picnic this afternoon. All of the Little Green children thoroughly enjoyed their time with their Malvern Way friends and we do hope to do even more of this collaborative learning in the future! We wish you all a wonderful Jubilee Weekend and a Happy Half Term!
We had a very special day on Wednesday that was the culmination of children driving their voices to make a change. Our Bee Team (We'd had Bee Boys and Bee Brigade but this is the chosen name) have been promoting and learning about bees since Year 3 I am told. Miss Brauka has been encouraging and supporting the boys and they asked if they could run a Bee themed competition a few months ago. This has become our Bee Day with us all dressed in black and yellow; raising funds for bees; learning about bees and welcoming Mr Alan Restarick (Vice Chair of Governors) to the school to share his own enthusiasm for bee keeping with the school. We are aiming to develop our support for bees in the coming months and years and there is the potential (once carefully risk assessed) to have our own bee hive on the school grounds. A huge thank you to the boys, Louis, Rory, Ashley, Lucas and Benjamin. A special thank you to Miss Brauka and Mr Restarick. Well done to everyone who came in as a bee to support our bee day!
Queen Bee Day Sketching
We've been sketching bees today to celebrate our upcoming Yellow and Black (Queen Bee) day. We'll be using water colours to produce a hive-style design behind them later in the week. You can see some of 6H's bees below!
Year 6 SATs Preparation
A few weeks ago our Year 6 children all approached their SAT tests with positive mental attitudes and the desire to try their best. We had a very smooth and focused week which reflects the huge efforts the school staff and Year 6 staff in particular, go in ensuring to balance the pressure of tests with the importance of learning. If you have been keeping track of the Website Blog, you will see the amazing learning Year 6 have been completing all year to ensure a well-balanced and engaging curriculum of learning. Personally I wanted to thank the Year 6 staff, Mrs Boddy, Miss Sedgwick and everyone involved for getting things right. We asked the Year 6 parents for their own feedback and, as you can see below, the majority of parents believe we got it right also. Thank you also for the comments which help us to further consider our support moving forward. We are stronger together!
What are SATs for?

This is a great article that highlights what the SAT tests are used for. Whilst they, predominantly, are one measure of a school's teaching (do see the concerns that experts raise in relation to the accuracy of such a measure.) They can also be used by Secondary Schools to begin to consider if a child should be taught in different ability groups.
Year 6 enjoyed their Thorpe Park trip last Thursday and have a range of exciting activities and responsibilities to look forward to in their last term with us. We are all very excited!
From a proud parent:
Three pupils at Little Green had the pleasure of taking part at the Watford and District School's Swimming Association gala on Friday 20th May. Children from all schools in this area came together and could choose to do one or all of the strokes; each race being 50m.
Emily (Year 5 girls) did the Freestyle and Breaststroke. It was Emily's first gala and I know having spoken with her parents she was nervous, so it was a great achievement to have overcome those nerves.
Isla (Year 6 girls) competed in all four strokes and beat her entry times on Freestyle and Breaststroke.
Hugo (Year 5 boys) did the Freestyle and Backstroke, winning silver medal and a PB on the Freestyle.
All children enjoyed taking part and representing Little Green! Full results attached for reference. I wanted to share as it was a great achievement for them all.
Dear Parents and Carers
To celebrate the Queen's Jubilee FOLG felt it would be nice to organise another one of their highly successful Croxley Green treasure Hunts. This time the Queen has lost her Corgis - your job is to follow the clues around Croxley Green starting at Little Green School and count up the total number of Corgis you see in each window and then if you would like to, send in your answer to
folg@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk for entry into a small prize draw.
The treasure hunt will be open from Friday 27th May through to the end of Monday 6th June. The route is long so we advise doing it on bikes or scooters or completing it over several days. The route is circular so if you find a clue around the village you can start anywhere.
We hope this is an event which will get the community out and about enjoying the local area.
Thank you for your support
FOLG
DfE is supporting ‘Thank a Teacher Day’ on Thursday 26 May.
The department supports the campaign as teachers, support staff, and everyone working in education have gone above and beyond for this country’s children and young people, preparing the next generation to make the very best of their lives. Say thank you to an amazing educator, from teaching assistants to school leaders, nursery staff to FE lecturers, by sending a free, personalised card for Thank a Teacher Day.
The Thank a Teacher campaign celebrates everyone working in education for the incredible work they do and there are plenty of opportunities for schools, pupils and parents to get involved.
Fri 27/05 - INSET day. School closed to pupils
Mon 06.06 Bank Holiday in lieu of Jubilee (School Closed)
Tue 07.06 School reopens to students
