Last Friday, the children were treated to the most amazing Owl experience. The open-mouthed wonder, whispered gasps and 'awww' of seeing real owls sore across the assembly hall was a truly inspiring and unexpected experience for all of us. Thank you so much to Miss Shah, our Geography Lead, for organising the event and giving the children and staff such an incredible and memorable learning opportunity!
Matt is also a parent at Little Green and we were honoured to have him share his experience of recently competing at the World Championships in Ibiza. He was able to share how he approaches taking on challenges and ensures he has good habits to succeed. Key messages included:
Set yourself goals.
Make time to put the time in.
Focus on your better - try your better!
Thank you to Matt for an inspiring talk and some excellent messages which we can apply to all of our learning.
We were treated to a wonderful day of sporting excellence on Thursday. The weather gods were with us and the delayed start still allowed us to get through both the new carousel approach to the morning - allowing ongoing active sport; the family picnic - a personal highlight; and the traditional track races. Thank you to all the families who were able to come and support the day. Thank you also for understanding the huge logistical challenge in making decisions on whether to go ahead or not. Finally, we are also keen for your feedback so do share any ideas for how we can make the sports day even better. One obvious focus will be the slight overrunning which impacted on Malvern Way parents - we do apologise for this and will calculate out timings more carefully for next year! Special thanks go out to the indefatigable FOLG core team who step up to key events. We are hoping to encourage more parents to join the FOLG team and help share and support the workload moving forward. More information to follow!
Finally, congratulations to the Red Rhinos who narrowly pipped other houses to the Sports Week win. Congratulations also to the Yellow Hippo House for taking home the Sportsmanship Award.
1045 and the children begin to march to their starting activities.
The weather held of and the picnic was a lovely community occasion.
Children and parents lined the tracks to make it a truly exciting experience for every child.
FOLG team supporting us all to be the best for our children. Thank you!
On Wednesday, Miss Sedgwick and I were very happy when we actually were able to make time to be in class learning with children. We used the opportunity to trial a complimentary approach to our Learning Walk monitoring - where we walk around the school observing and supporting staff. Instead, our learning talks set up more of a whole class dialogue and reflection on a range of school approaches and systems. We began with two Year 3 classes and will be working with the rest of the school before the end of term. One way of starting the conversation was to get children to rank some of the core activities and processes, and support available in school, within a diamond (most positive at the top, least positive at bottom). A few examples show the individual perceptions of our children. We will get all of the information in, analyse it and then consider the results in shaping our school development plans moving in to 2023-24.
Miss Reile and I have had the pleasure of working with colleagues at York House and Croxley Danes to create an inaugural Eco Forum this year. The Eco Forum is a coming together of Eco Councils from local schools. The aim is to learn together; celebrate and share good practice; and make an even bigger difference to our environment. We were very lucky to be able to host the Forum at Cassiobury Farm/Zoo, thanks to the support for Steve and Ashley, the directors. The children shared their school projects with each other; learnt about some endangered animals observing their feeding; and voted for a favourite school project. With sustainability becoming a statuary school agenda item, watch this space for how the Eco Forum, Student Council Forum and Miss Reile and the Year 5 Eco Council, drive Environmental projects, actions and changes across the school community and curriculum.
One of the highlights of the Year 4 calendar is our sailing lessons at BLYM. Mr. Whitelaw's class had the pleasure of starting this last year with Ms. Brauka next week and Mr. Flint the week after. A wonderful and memorable learning experiment for everyone involved.
