Thank you to everyone who shared their views on the road safety survey. There are a wide range of very passionate views. We share a summary of views and feedback below. The Road Safety Council will be working throughout the year to continue our drive to develop a safer, healthier, environmental community for everyone. Thank you for all your support this half term and for taking the time to read all of our ideas; contribute to our google forms; and encourage us during our clapping. We look forward to sharing more developments in the future!
As a Road Safety Council we have shared some of the common themes and responses. We understand that for some, the car is the only option. We also understand that this doesn't mean we can't work at making the roads safer - but it requires all of the differing views to pull together a little bit, compromise and understand each others' perspectives. It is important to remember, effective compromises leave everyone a little unhappy.
"Something needs to be done, the amount of times I see cars doing a three point turn down Rochester way and just missing children as bumping up the pavement. Is unacceptable!! It’s only a matter of time until someone really gets hurt. Very worrying!!"
"I don't really have any ideas and don't really think you can change some people's behaviours. It's just the way schools are and there's nothing you can do about it in the long run. We just have to accept it."
"I’m lucky that I moved nearer to the school so I can walk now. When I lived in our old place, it was a 20 min walk to school, and I had to be at work straight after drop off so car was the only option. Don’t be too hard on us working parents for doing that, some of us don’t have the luxury of time in the mornings 🙂"
Whilst there is some mixing of travel, roughly one third of our community come to school by car on occasion.
Around 25% of our community share that they have no other choice due to distance or time commitments.
The reason for this is the need to get to work on time or the distance. This also explains why some drivers struggle to park further away as this can make them late for work/ end up stuck in longer traffic jams etc.
Based on all your feedback and ideas we plan to develop some sort of poster campaign (whilst being mindful of not wanting to waste paper.) and we will start to plan for a trial of a slight stagger - this will be at some point after half-term - with more information to follow.
Here's one effort for a road safety poster you may be seeing around. Well done Hugo!
A compromising message from our Road Safety Council - Thank you to Aldona and to Hugo for his map which may also form part of our information/leaflet/poster campaign...
We really want everyone to walk or ride or scoot to school if they are able... If you live far away, you might be able to drive and then park a little further away from the school - check out Hugo's map for some ideas. Together, we can make the school healthy and safe and wonderful for everyone. If you can't ride, walking is fine too! Let's do this! From the Road Safety Council

Have you noticed, recently, how many people park their cars and fill up the roads and pavements around Little Green School during drop-off and pick-up times?
We all know the road safety rules - to stop, look and listen before crossing….but what happens when parked cars (vans etc) make it impossible to see if it’s safe?
Parking a tiny bit further away could REALLY make the roads near school much safer for everybody, plus it enhances your fitness, and is better for the air quality near school.
Please do your part....here is a map with some ideas of places to park / not park...let us know what you think!
We currently have five cases related to one Year 6 class that we are monitoring. This triggers an 'outbreak' definition and we are contacting Herts Public Health and will be following their guidance. Until then, as with our previous outbreak which peaked at 6, the class will be eating separately to the rest of the school for the remainder of next week.
The national guidance continues to support a move to living with Covid. See DfE poster above for when students need to isolate. We follow the current guidance with four key foci:
The four key elements are:
Ensure good hygiene for everyone.
Maintain appropriate cleaning regimes.
Keep occupied spaces well ventilated.
Follow public health advice on testing, self-isolation and managing confirmed cases of Covid.
As a school, unless we have a cluster of five related cases, we will continue following this guidance and thank you for your support. We do appreciate being informed via the admin email - admin@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - so that we are also able to identify when cases may be indirectly related.
