There is always too much to share with you each week and trying to avoid cognitively overloading a busy community is a challenge with so much to celebrate. This week is a special one with so many exciting initiatives, learning and activities coming to life from the children. At Little Green we take a special focus and approach to driving the children AS leaders and this week's Newsweb really shows this achievement. My own personal inspiration has come from two girls who enjoyed some class debates so much last year that they asked to start their own debating club.
With debating as a cornerstone of an effective democracy, it is so special that children are driven to create these spaces for free speech - a space to share, develop, challenge and educate ideas so that we can all understand each other and recognise there are always more than one side to an argument. Well done to Myra and Alaina - and thank you to Ms Muckell for supporting the club.
Max is doing the Sleep Out at WFC today (Friday 1st March). He says,
" Basically, we are sleeping out in Watford Stadium where the seats are and we are hoping people will sponsor us and all the money that we get will go to charity for homeless people. Please will you sponsor us?"
Evie was really excited to have her hair cut for the Little Princess Trust at the beginning of half term and wanted to share her experience.
The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.
She has been growing her hair for a few years and decided that when she got her hair cut she wanted to donate it. She managed to donate 11inches/28cm of hair and has still been left with plenty of hair!
Children as Leaders - Reading Badge Competition Organisers, Manufacturers and Winner!
I love the power of children learning to lead. In truth, with very little support, our children are incredible leaders already - and just need the opportunities to recognise their own brilliance.
The badge competition was, this year, run entirely by the Year 6 Art Leaders who ran assemblies, sent out information sheets, organised the children's vote and announced the winning badges. The majority has spoken and the winner this year was Niam Patel, with his brother Zachary voted runner up! Congratulations!
We look forward to seeing the children wearing their reading badges with pride to celebrate their love of reading and their commitment to reading in school and at home. Well done to all involved.
A huge well done to our Art Leaders who successfully ran the badge competition AND who have already started the Potato competition - see below - it closes next week!
Our Year 6 Badge Making Leaders got straight to work on Monday lunchtime to make the badges - a smooth, efficient and effective culture of productivity!
Dear students of Little Green,
We would like to inform you about a World Book Day themed competition. Your challenge is to turn an ordinary potato into a book character of your choice!
You can use pens, paint, fabric, paper, card, recycled items or any craft materials you may have at home to add features and costumes to your potato.
Below are some different examples to inspire you – can you spot any characters you recognise?
We can’t wait to see a whole variety of potatoes that celebrate the characters from a wide range of books!
The hand-in date is the 7th of March 2024.
Thank you,
The Year 6 ART Leaders.
Here are some examples:
Year 5 Bikeability Successes
It was lovely to see the vast majority of Year 5 children learning to cycle safely on the road. We do hope this translates into more cyclists coming to school - and less cars!
Some special feedback from a parent:
May I please say that all the groups that have been out on Bikeability today have been a credit to the school.
Sensible children listening carefully, cycling sensibly and above all having a good time out on their bikes, learning an invaluable skill.
Well done to all that have been cycling in this area today.
Thank you for the positive feedback. Working with the children, we are not surprised by this praise. Our days are usually filled with success, celebrations and learning achievements. We are a very lucky community!

Stationery sets
Save yourself the summer stationery shopping stress and buy now! Sourced by Mr Flint so all of the equipment in the packs is school approved!
The flash sale price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £10 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. The pack contains 2 writing pens, a green pen, 2 HB pencils, a pair of scissors (you can specify right or left handed), Pritt Stick, eraser, Boogie sharpener, 30 cm ruler, whiteboard pen, highlighter all contained in a clear pencil case. These can then be sent straight to your child's classroom or be held at the school office for you to pick up.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p. Send an email outlining the items you wish to order - remember to include sizes and your child's class - you will then receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect from the school office.

CAR PARKING REMINDER
Please do not park on the yellow zig zag lines. This is a waiting offence and puts pedestrians at risk. Police will almost always issue a Fixed Penalty Notice without exceptions. Please park safely.
A polite reminder that parents should not be driving into the School car park for any reason between 8am and 5pm.
Only Blue Badge holders should be accessing the School car park. Thank you.
BASC (Breakfast and After School Club) parents can use the School car park before 8am and after 5pm.
