DOING IT!
DOING IT!
Congratulations to both of our Year 6 Indoor Athletics Teams who achieved District Gold Medals at the Indoor Athletics Finals this week! The Girls team were competing against Rickmansworth Park & Holy Rood after coming 2nd place in our January Semi-Final. They won 4/6 track races and 4/7 field events to take a 4 point victory overall! The Boys team were competing against Orchard Primary & Holy Rood after also coming 2nd place in their Semi-Final. They won 2/6 track races and 3/7 field events and tied on points with Holy Rood... it came down to number of events won in the final, which meant Little Green took 1st place! Both teams showed fantastic collaboration and determination to put in their best effort in all of their events. They were cheering each other on and the sportsmanship shown throughout towards the other schools was admirable. Well done Little Green - Three Rivers & Watford District Indoor Athletics Champions 2022!
We are very lucky to have an incredibly talented and dedicated staff at Little Green. They are modelling the model of 'Doing It!' regardless of how they might be feeling currently! DO IT was also the theme for Monday's assembly building on understanding that motivation isn't usually a positive feeling.
With that in mind, is someone 'DOING IT' for your child at Little Green? Here is one way of recognising their efforts:
The 2022 Pearson National Teaching Awards are now open and it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible hard work of your teachers’ and support staff.
The ‘Unsung Hero’ Pearson National Teaching Award recognises the understated champions of the school staff in a prestigious, UK-wide celebration of teaching, known as the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching world and televised by the BBC. It acts as a morale boost for the whole community, with the entire school family able to get behind their nominee and celebrate what makes their school so great. Entries are welcome from governors, staff, parents and pupils, it’s free and easy to enter and makes such a difference. Get your school’s entries in by 4th March 2022 to celebrate your school hero!
Year 4 used microscopes to look at a range of natural objects including: rocks, wood and insects. We noticed a lot of details and understood that we notice more by using scientific equipment.

Birdwatching in Year 5
Year 6 have started producing their moving vehicles this week. So far, we've designed, measured, cut and sanded our wood and fixed it together using triangulation.
Next week, we'll add some electrics and see if we can get them to move independently. It will require perseverance!
We have been inspired by some of the work of Dame Helen Hyde in supporting the Rwandan Sisterhood. This has included offering a pack that includes a hand-made knitted blanket. For many of these women, their blanket will have come from the talented hands of Val Madden who has been sharing blankets with Dame Helen Hyde since her visit and talk in 2018. Today, Val handed over another sack full of knitted and crocheted blankets and it is wonderful to be continually inspired by someone who just keeps on doing and giving. Well done Val and thank you for being a role model for all of us!
Birthday Treats Survey - maybe not doing it?!
The staff have been reflecting on the handing out of birthday sweets and treats at the end of the day reporting that it can be very time-consuming and also challenging to manage the allergy and vegetarian requirements - Haribo can contain gelatin for instance. We also can't allow home baked goods as we have no control over what ingredients may be included. Then someone had the bright idea of asking the parents what you think. Is this a treasured experience or would many of you support this ending or being replaced with something else? Let us know in this week's Birthday Treats Google Form Survey!
On Friday, Little Green played against Harvey Road School in a league netball match. The Little Green team played superbly well, defending with fantastic concentration and scoring with almost every attack. Some fantastic shooting from Emma with 4 goals, Eve with 3 goals and Isla with 3 goals gave us a massive 11 points compared to Harvey Road who only managed 4.
The team spirit could not be faltered with lots of people playing out of position for parts of the game and not complaining one bit! This was our last league match in the group stages and if other results manage to go our way we could potentially be looking to go forward to the district finals after 2 wins and a loss over the 3 games we have played.
