Motivated to Succeed
Motivated to Succeed
How does motivation feel?
If you answered with something positive, you are wrong just like most people in Monday's assembly. Let me explain...
This week, I was extremely motivated to go swimming. At 0528 on Wednesday morning I did not feel positive! See exhibit A!
Being motivated means DOING IT regardless of any negative feelings you may have.
If you have a picture of you or your children being motivated WHILST looking tired, un-energised, fearful, nervous, scared, etc. please do send them in for my motivational feelings board! Let's all help to normalise and support these feelings when we try to do anything challenging!
So why do many people think motivated people must be feeling positive? What we forget is that we often judge this by the look on their face after successes. (See exhibit B!)
Sometimes, doing the hard thing - homework, exercise, going the extra mile - is a real emotional challenge full of fear, self-doubt and excuse-making.
Only afterwards do we feel a sense of achievement.
Understanding that negative emotions are utterly normal can help many of our children and adults to get on with DOING IT - motivated to succeed and then to feel positive! See the rest of the newsletter for the successes that DOING can build!
How did the risk of starting the design feel for some children? Worried about a mistake; worried about looking silly or being judged by others? But they did it!
This week in our history lessons, we have been learning all about Stone Age Cave paintings. We found out that Cave Paintings can still be seen today and are one way of learning all about the Stone Age. We based our ideas on examples of real life Cave Paintings. Often the paintings would have been outlines of hands or animals. We added our Cave Painting to our caves to make the cave look more realistic.
Parent parking Advisor Update
We all want the parking to be better - we are all motivated - when we ask for your support, how do you feel? Thank you to all the parents who have signed up to find out more about the Parking Advisor role. We plan to email out basic information before half-term so you can consider and formally agree or not.
We do apologise for the delay in getting this up and running which is due to Covid preventing the Road Safety Council from being able to lead on the advice wording and the initial launch. We, optimistically, hope for a launch after half-term.
I wonder how did the girls feel before and during the match? Nervous, Anxious...but motivated...
The Little Green Girls Football team played local rivals Yorke Mead School in a league football match after school on Friday. To say the girls were unbelievable is an understatement, smashing our opponents 6-1 in a game of fantastic goalkeeping and even better goals!Little Green's goals were scored by Lily S (x2), Naomi (x2), Olivia and Amelie. Naomi kicked off the scoring in the first half with 2 great strikes, followed by an unbelievable top corner free kick by Olivia which wouldn't have been saved by any keeper! Both of Lily's goals were taken superbly well either side of half time to help us into a commanding lead, with Amelie scoring a fantastic finish into the bottom corner in her first game for the team.
Some brilliant defending and keeping from Ava B, Aldona, Isla, Ava K & Kyla saw Yorke Mead limited to only 1 goal in the game, but a save from Kyla in the second half, tipping the ball around the post to prevent yet another top corner goal was a special highlight of the game as a whole.
All of the girls were worthy of Player of the Match, Eve & Lilly W working tirelessly throughout the game and both unlucky not to score, but for her solid performance and heroic saves the Player of the Match goes to Kyla!
Well Done girls, onto our last league game in 2 weeks!
Would you like to share your thoughts on school dinners and be in with the chance to win £50 of Amazon vouchers?
HCL (Hertfordshire Catering Ltd) provide the catering at our school and they want to make sure that in the future their Vision, Mission and Values reflect the things that are important to children and parents. They also want to hear how they can better support the environment and the local community.
They have asked us to share a short e-survey with all parents, please see link below:
Click here for link to HCL Parents Survey
The survey should take around 5-10 minutes to complete and even if your child doesn't currently have school dinners you can still complete the questions relevant to you.
Please do consider sharing your thoughts. All surveys completed by 31st January will be in with a chance to win £50 worth of Amazon vouchers
Thank you in advance for your support.
***RECYCLING REQUEST***ART PROJECT***
Please can we ask for your help with a whole school project?
We need 15-16 plastic 2, 2.5 or 3 litre drinks bottles for each class!
If you have any empties, we would be most grateful if you could wash them, remove any sticky labels, leaving the lid on and send them into school, to your child’s class teacher.
We will be collecting them over the next two weeks, or until we have enough for the whole school!
Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Mrs Rowland
As you know, we have had a rise in cases and increased our mitigations at the beginning of this week in school. We expect these to have some impact but also acknowledge that outside of school life continues as normal.
Currently 23 live isolations: 21 children and 2 staff

Road Safety County Survey:
Thank you to FOLG leaders for contacting the council to survey the roads again with the hope of getting a patrol. Unfortunately, we again failed to meet threshold. We will continue looking at ways to support and improve the roads to ensure they are as safe as possible for the whole community. Please do stay safe and reinforce the road safety messages we deliver at school.
