Earth Day
Earth Day Calendar Launch
At the end of this week, all the children will come home with an Earth Day Calendar. This was created by the Green Croxley group of schools driving the message 'One Small Change!' Your challenge is to complete all of the tasks on it within 30 days. These challenges have been thought of by children from all of the six Croxley Green schools. Also these postcards are made from recycled paper!
As part of the launch, a video was created by the Green Croxley Schools which the children viewed in school today. See this below:
Thank you for doing your part,
Little Green Eco Council
Hello!
We are Little Green's Eco Council and we are on a mission to save our environment. On Thursday, the 6 of us (Abigail & Joshua-5E, Tilly & Martha-5R, Nia & Dylan-5H) went to York Mead School for a discussion on food waste. We discovered that this isn't a topic generally brought up when talking about the environment, however, actually this is a really important issue that must be dealt with. This issue gets its importance because of all of the water, energy and resources needed to grow or raise food and livestock.
Some ways we discovered that people could help were-
Planning ahead for meals so you know what you need to buy
Knowing how to store your food (fridge less than 5 degrees)
Understand the difference between ‘best before’ and ‘use by’
Use up what you have before buying again
Repurpose leftovers
Avoid serving too much
Additionally, we had to talk about different ways we would save having food waste in school and at the end of this we had to make a pledge. Our pledge was to divide our dining hall bins into one for general waste and one for food waste. Then at the end of the day, we’d empty our food waste into our composter, before using that compost on the school garden, which we will try to start using more.
Thank you for doing your part,

Student Council Forum - Assembly
The Student Council Forum met virtually to celebrate the environmental successes and share plans for the future as part of Earth Day. We now have all 16 state schools learning together as part of the Riversmeet Consortium. We look forward to meeting at Watersmeet on the 22nd June 2022 with all of the Council representatives. See the slides below to see what 1200 children shared at assembly today!
Year 5 have had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Batchelor, STEM Ambassador (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics) to learn about, design and build some bridges as part of the K'Nex Challenge2022. The children were inventive creative and incredibly successful. Well done to everyone for building bridges. More information can be found here: https://www.stempointeast.org.uk/education/primary/knex-challenge/
The children fed back, 'We saw loads of teamwork!' 'It was challenging but fun!' ' We kept making adjustments to original plans to make things better.' 'It was nice to do something a little different.' 'We got there in the end!' 'It was a great experience - especially for those not used to K'nex.' 'I felt really pleased with myself.'
On Wednesday, Little Green competed in the District Quicksticks Hockey Competition. 8 children from Year 6 played against 8 other schools with the winners moving on to the County Finals.
The team were absolutely superb, achieving 5 wins and 3 draws without conceding a single goal in any of their games. Some fantastic defending and play-making from Charlie, Isla, Aldona and Edie, with goals from Will (x4), Eve (x4), Josh and Max helped Little Green finish in 1st Place with 18 points.
A fantastic achievement for the team who will now compete against the best from across Hertfordshire in July!
It was a pleasure to welcome Angie Prior and Sam Pullinger, former pupils and now Governors at Little Green, to the launch of our Parent Parking Advisor plans driven by the Road Safety Council. Sam and Angie arranged for a donation of bibs from their employer Skanska (THANK YOU!) and are committed to supporting the school continue to move on to be the best it can be for our community. You will have seen us at pick up on Thursday after school sharing our advice leaflets and a sweet to brighten your day. Moving forward our incredibly generous and community-orientated parents Mr. Dover, Mr. Butcher and Mr. Pattni, will be offering support to parents with parking advice and supporting the school and the community in making the roads a little safer. Do give us your feedback on the impact and any other ideas you might have to support the community at drop off and pick up. On behalf of the school, a big thank you from me to the children, parents and governors for giving your support.
Here is the latest guidance for living with covid. Note:
No. From 1 April, anyone with a positive COVID-19 test result will be advised to try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for five days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be three days.
Do report your children's positive cases here:
