Year 3: World Book Day
We all walk the same streets and have the same challenges. Today I am sat at home with a post-temperature lively three-year-old and a new temperature poorly 7-year old who is dressed as a dragon and very sad to be missing World Book Day, whilst hoping to be better for a trip to Windsor Castle (unlikely but hope persists.) We’re just watching Flight of the Navigator and I am explaining time travel as I type. Life right?!
I have been so very proud to be a part of the Little Green Community this week. The Newsweb, Blogs and Instagram accounts share the range of exciting learning experiences happening in school and at home - your potato creations are INCREDIBLE by the way! (Chips everyday next week!)
With a very positive Governor Link Day visit last Friday; our Herts for Learning moderation on Tuesday and a range of parent tours throughout the week, the school has been able to show off some of the depth and consistency of our positive culture and learning that happens every single day. The school is a lovely place to be and learn and I do encourage you all to come and see this for yourself - everyday is an open day - just email the office!
As always we have been supporting academic and social learning and I thank all of you for talking to us whenever you have a concern - we always investigate and act in line with our policy ensuring we consider everyone involved - please do talk to us so we can act quickly to investigate and establish the facts. We have had a couple of social media issues raised relating to the older members of our community. As you would all agree, unverified and unregulated social media content can be very harmful to all involved. Please do talk to us if you have any concerns. We continue our Online Safety drive in school and we will be sharing a few other thoughts around the use of social media in the coming weeks. See the BBC website for a few stories around the risks of phones in school.
We do have a Special Educational Needs TA job role out on TeachInHerts website to help us further support a range of children and the administration that goes with it. Please do signpost anyone you think may be interested.
Finally, I will be starting a 'debate' theme in Monday assemblies inspired by the Year 4 Debating Club which I am lucky to attend on Thursdays. This week we debated 'Ice cream OR Cake' AND 'Cats OR Dogs'. Some brilliant arguments were shared from both sides and a few minds were changed, including my own. What do you like best - ice-cream or cake...or both? I'll share the conclusions from the children after next week's assembly!
Book Day Potato Celebration and Author Meet
It has been incredibly hard to whittle down our potatoes to a winner from each year group! These are our finalists though… winners will be announced on Monday in assembly. #worldbookday #kindsafepositivelearning
Fantastic engagement from @littlegreenjunior in the @waterstones online author event with @louiestowell - check out all the pictures of #loki! A great way to end #workdbookday2024

Science Week 2024 Launch
This morning we were fortunate enough to be visited by Mrs Batchelor, a parent of a child at Little Green and our STEM Ambassador, leading an assembly to launch Science Week 2024.
The theme of the week is 'time' so all of the children will be taking part in lots of hands-on activities linked to the theme. Next Friday afternoon, the children will be visiting each other's classrooms to see what learning has been taking place across the school.
We are all really looking forward to it and can't wait to share photos of our brilliant learning with you all.
Sleep Out Inspiration!
Benji and Louis took part in the sleep out at Watford Stadium to raise money to help combat homelessness in the school news web? They have now raised over £1000.
Gymnastics Inspiration!
Helena won Gold in the floor exercises and Bronze in the tumbling on Sunday. Well done Helena!
Maisie on the Radio!
Earlier in January, Maisie went to the BBC studios in London to record for an audio drama called 'The Little Photographer'. This is due to air on Radio 4 this Sunday at 3pm.
It was a fabulous opportunity for Maisie who got to act alongside Lucy Boynton who has starred in the film Bohemian Rhapsody and also had a cameo in the recent Barbie movie!
Here’s a picture of Maisie at the BBC studios.

Stationery sets
Save yourself the summer stationery shopping stress and buy now! Sourced by Mr Flint so all of the equipment in the packs is school approved!
The flash sale price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £10 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. The pack contains 2 writing pens, a green pen, 2 HB pencils, a pair of scissors (you can specify right or left handed), Pritt Stick, eraser, Boogie sharpener, 30 cm ruler, whiteboard pen, highlighter all contained in a clear pencil case. These can then be sent straight to your child's classroom or be held at the school office for you to pick up.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p. Send an email outlining the items you wish to order - remember to include sizes and your child's class - you will then receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect from the school office.

CAR PARKING REMINDER
Please do not park on the yellow zig zag lines. This is a waiting offence and puts pedestrians at risk. Police will almost always issue a Fixed Penalty Notice without exceptions. Please park safely.
A polite reminder that parents should not be driving into the School car park for any reason between 8am and 5pm.
Only Blue Badge holders should be accessing the School car park. Thank you.
BASC (Breakfast and After School Club) parents can use the School car park before 8am and after 5pm.
