Year 3 Bird Challenge
Your child may have come home recently talking about a new program we have been trialling in school. We’re excited to let you know that we will be continuing to use DoodleMaths! To launch this we are keen for parents to sign up their children to the Spring challenge - see poster above.
Doodle builds confidence and ability in maths by creating every child a personalised work programme tailored to develop their learning. To access at home, you can download the DoodleMaths app onto an Apple, Android or Amazon device. You can also log in to the Doodle programmes through the website (doodlelearning.com) on laptops and desktops by clicking ‘log in’ and choosing a programme.
We are also using Doodle to support us in measuring the long term memory impact of our teaching at Little Green as well as an opportunity for allowing repetition and revision of mathematical concepts to support children to be able to remember and hold on to the wide range of mathematical knowledge and understanding expected of them across the year and whole school curriculum.
More information on how to support your child at home with DoodleMaths will be sent out next week.
Let's get doodling!

Eco Council Request
Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week, the Year 5 children will be investigating how much food waste we throw away from our lunches.
To do this, we will be asking each Year Group to put their food waste from their packed and school lunches into separate labelled buckets and then we will weigh the waste to see which Year Group throws away the most.
As always, the lunchtime staff will be ensuring that your child eats a sufficient amount of their lunch before they throw their waste away.
We will be sharing this information with you and this data will be used to support Year 5 (The School's Eco Council) to think of ways in which we can reduce food waste at Little Green.
Many thanks,
Miss Reile and the Eco Council.
Book Fair - Great News!
'You've run our most successful book fair ever - how did you do it?' - Scholastic (March 2023)
Thank you!
We had a fantastic book fair this year. Your children’s enthusiasm for books and your generosity has raised an amazing £2,126.02 in commission for the school to spend on books for the children.
Imagine the creative journeys your children can take as they delve into the fictional lands they read about or the facts they will wow you with as we extend our non-fiction range.
On Friday, we were extremely lucky to welcome our STEM ambassador Mrs. Batchelor and several parents who work in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to inspire, inform and enthuse the children of Little Green about STEM subjects.
There were several brilliant different activities for the children to be involved in which included:
Looking at the extraction of DNA from a banana, observing onion cells with a microscope and understanding what a double helix is.
Construction of a masonry wall using foam bricks and looking at the patterns that bricks can make, as well as building a bridge out of newspaper to cross an imaginary river.
Aeronautics and rocket propulsion where the children observed what happened when Mentos were added to Coke, investigating forces with a Stomp Rocket and creating their own paper planes.
We are so grateful to have such inspiring and kind parents at our school who are willing to give up their own time to design these activities and deliver them to the children.
A huge 'Thank you' to: Mrs. Batchelor, Dr. Senderovich, Dr. Rowland, Mrs. Clulow, Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Stewart. We had a brilliant afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the activities.
Another science week experiment - this time, we did a chromatography investigation to identify which dyes are used to colour skittles.
"The colours that skittles might seem is not actually what they're made of!" - Emily C
"I found out that all of the skittles seem to be made up of primary colour dyes," - Kian
"When you do this experiment you'll learn a lot about colour (and skittles!)" - Lilly.
"I learnt that the different colour dyes travel at different speeds and it depends on the molecules in the dye," - Hugo
'Frozen' at
Croxley Danes
Today, Year 3 were invited to Croxley Danes School for the morning. They had the privilege of watching the student version of Frozen the Musical. The children represented the school brilliantly by sitting and cheering on the performers throughout the show. It was also a pleasure to see so many alumni taking the stage.
Pet Therapy with Taika
We are delighted that Taika the pet therapy dog has been coming in to hear some of our children read and offer them some more caring positive experiences in school.
Taika helps us all to feel feel a little calmer and compassionate!
Thank you Taika!
FOLG FUN RUN
Update:
We have risk assessed the course and have over 40 parent volunteers to help us ensure our first run is a success. Please make sure your children come with a waterproof jacket and a pair of trainers that they can get muddy. We will aim to complete the fun run (or walk if wet) as long as the children have appropriate attire:
“There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

FOLG second-hand sports kit marketplace
We are really excited to announce that FOLG is setting up it’s own online marketplace for parents to donate and buy second-hand sportswear and equipment on a new community based app called "Grassboots". With most donations priced between £1.00 to £5.00 it provides a fantastic opportunity to buy preloved kit for amazing value, especially during these difficult times. So, to join up, please go to your App store and download the “Grassboots.Club" app. When registering, link to Little Green School (FOLG) and you’re then good to go. Once an item is bought, contact the donater via the in-app messenger to arrange a collection time at the school gates...easy! This community focussed initiative gives the school and parents a great opportunity to recycle more, reduce waste and the majority of every sale goes towards fundraising targets for FOLG... so please join up and start donating and buying!
For more information please go to: www.grassboots.club or Facebook / Instagram @grassboots.club
Stationery sets
If you missed out on ordering stationery sets we have received new stock and will be opening the opportunity to order on PTA events again - the introductory price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £8 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p.
