Welcome to the 32nd Newsweb of the year. As we enter the summer term home straight, we are gearing up for a Sprint Finish! Year 4 Sailing, Owl Display, Year 6 Cinema Trip, Rounders tournament, Leavers Show, Student and Eco Council Forums; Pushball Tournaments and Sports Day are just some of the things to look forward to.
Today, the Circus has come to town and all of the children have been enjoying a circus experience. We also look forward to welcoming you to one of the three performances on Saturday. Tickets are going fast so please do book them ahead of the day. The Circus Team will have a play tent for children to use before and after shows and there will be stalls selling treats; some school made circus toys from Year 4; and plants grown by the Year 5 Eco Council (That's all of Year 5!)
Finally, please spend a short time giving your feedback to governors so we are able to see what is working, and what needs further improvement! (88 responses only so far!)

If I don't see you at the circus, have a lovely weekend!
Thank you to everyone who took part in Crazy Hair Day to support FOLG in creating House Hampers for the raffle - please do buy a raffle ticket for the amazing hampers!
Doodle Maths Challenge Celebration
Before half term, Ms Tarbox led an assembly to celebrate the successes of children in our new Doodle Maths On Line support.
We were delighted to celebrate our first Doodle Maths Challenge Winners presenting them each with their own pin and certificate. Ms Tarbox will be launching a Doodle Maths Summer term Competition in the coming weeks to promote maths learning through the summer. In Year 6, children have been challenged to do this daily and stay 'in the Doodle Green Zone'.
It is such an easy and quick thing to practise some maths skills and retain those skills through the summer. We do hope everyone takes the opportunity to develop their maths with this fantastic maths application opportunity. Thank you to everyone who is putting in the time!
Competition Website - FIXED!
Competition Website update: I do apologise that the competition website was inaccessible to some of you. We have spent some time digging into the technicalities of the website and this is now fixed. There are a range of brilliant conceptions created by the children, for the children. Something for everyone! We shared these with the children before half term and they are also on display.
All children are required to complete one competition entry as a Home Learning and they are welcome to enter as many as they would like! You have to be in it to win it!

The amazing accomplishments of the Girl's Football Team continued with their visit to the Premiership's Tournament Final for the second year running. This year the event was held in Leeds and the children, families and our Sports Team, Mr Rivers, Ms. Muckell and Ms. Sedgwick all travelled up with the girls to support and encourage them.
They were utterly focused and driven throughout the competition and continued to fight throughout even with a few close results which narrowly did not go there way. We are all very proud of their successes and their positive mindsets. A wonderful group of inspirational role models for all of the Little Green Community.
Well done girls!
We were delighted to hear about Isla's amazing successes at the National Gymnastics Competition. She shared her experiences and the critical messages of never giving up and always putting in the work to succeed.
An amazing inspiration to all of us.
Well done Isla!
Our Year 4 student Maisie is taking part in the British BMX Championships which is being held in Derby on 27/28 August 2023. We want to wish her the very best of luck as she competes against the fastest girls in her age group from across the UK. BMX racing (https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/bmx) is one of the most exciting forms of cycle sport both to watch and take part in. It’s highly technical and requires strength, nerve and tactical ability by the bucket-load.
Every year competitors race over a number of regional rounds of which Maisie races in the East of England region. These regional rounds enable you to qualify for the British BMX championships (https://www.derby.gov.uk/news/2022/december/derby-to-host-2023-british-bmx-championships/).
The British BMX championships is a weekend event with around 1,500 racers competing to become British champion in their category. The event hosts everything from five year olds to the ‘superclass’ which will have some likely future Olympians and certainly professional riders attending. Maisie is very pleased to be taking part and although she will be up against some very tough competition she will be very proud just to be taking part.
If you are interested in the sport please contact Maisie’s mum. It is also likely that the event will be streamed live on the BMX Race Hub you tube channel.
We were delighted to welcome back alumna Emma and her Croxley Danes peer Jess who expertly presented to the whole school about the campaign 'Bring My Friend to School' - a campaign to raise awareness of the plight of thousands of children across the globe missing out on a quality education. Our children were challenged to write to their MP - Gagan Mohindra, to drive this message and support children across the world.
A huge thank you to both girls and Ms. Cox (Assistant Head at Croxley Danes) for supporting this campaign and taking the time to promote it to our community. Well done!
FOLG second-hand sports kit marketplace
We are really excited to announce that FOLG is setting up it’s own online marketplace for parents to donate and buy second-hand sportswear and equipment on a new community based app called "Grassboots". With most donations priced between £1.00 to £5.00 it provides a fantastic opportunity to buy preloved kit for amazing value, especially during these difficult times. So, to join up, please go to your App store and download the “Grassboots.Club" app. When registering, link to Little Green School (FOLG) and you’re then good to go. Once an item is bought, contact the donater via the in-app messenger to arrange a collection time at the school gates...easy! This community focussed initiative gives the school and parents a great opportunity to recycle more, reduce waste and the majority of every sale goes towards fundraising targets for FOLG... so please join up and start donating and buying!
For more information please go to: www.grassboots.club or Facebook / Instagram @grassboots.club
Stationery sets
If you missed out on ordering stationery sets we have received new stock and will be opening the opportunity to order on PTA events again - the introductory price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £8 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. Information of what is contained in the packs can be found at this link.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p. Send an email outlining the items you wish to order - remember to include sizes and your child's class - you will then receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect from the school office.
