Year 6 Leavers' Production of Oliver - critical review

The Year 6 children of Little Green Junior School, supported by staff and parents, put on the stage production of Oliver. At every level from lights to props, solo to chorus, backstage to choreography, the production was a triumph and a fitting celebration for the Year 6 children who leave our gates as students for the last time today. We are all so very proud of your achievements and we also thank the parents for helping us to mop the floor with the abundancy of tears. As we say goodbye to our Year 6 children and families,  know that you have inherited, built and leave an incredible legacy for Little Green Junior School families, now and into the future. Next year we celebrate 75 years of Little Green Junior School and we expect to see you all returning to celebrate in some form or other! Congratulations on an amazing year and thank you to the whole community for making the year so special - #teamwork #community! #broadwayherewecome #savemeaticketwhenyouactuallydohitthewestend! #smashedit!

Outstanding Contribution and Endeavour

A Little Green tradition since 2004 has been to give out two awards at the end of Year 6: one for 'Outstanding Contribution' and one for 'Endeavour'.

The Endeavour Award is designed to celebrate a child who has shown real determination, persistence and perseverance in their learning. This year, there were so many candidates that we had a difficult time narrowing it down! Eventually, we selected three children who are shining examples of endeavour. They are: Evie, Arianna and Siobhan. Well done girls!

The Outstanding contribution award is designed to reward overall contribution to school life; it links to Community Well-Being! What has the pupil given back to the school? How supportive are they are on the playground? Do they take part in the wider life of the school through, for example,  sporting achievements; running a club; musical achievements and more. This year, the winner of the award is Abigail who has consistently demonstrated these positive values since joining in Year 3. Brilliant work Abigail!

Celebration thank you from Mr Roberts

I've heard it said that a successful compromise leaves everyone disappointed.  As a school,  it is clear we can always do more for one group, family or individual but that will always be at the expense of another group, family or individual. Making compromises between different groups and interests means we can only ever please some of the people some of the time. I imagine a time when everyone understands this, and so are pleased nevertheless - a paradox to mull over.

Nevertheless,  as we come to the end of another successful academic year, I wanted to try and get everyone to pause, take a breath, and reflect on the amazing successes of the whole school community: Student Parliament winning the project of the year award; Leading with other schools the Eco Forum inaugural year; Year 6 SATs results beating national and county levels across the board; Year 4 Multiplication Tests results beating national and county levels; Sports inclusion and successes in all years and a whitewash of the local district competitions, Girls' Football National Finalists and Pushball Champions for the third year in a row (we get to keep the trophy!); Incredible trips and experiences for all year groups - BLYM sailing, Tate Modern, Hazard Alley, County Fair, Chocolate Maker; Ancient Greek Day;  Dragons Den; Smoothie making; Navigating Ofsted; Governor Link Days; Parent Workshops; Introducing Doodle Maths; Author Visits; Explorer Afternoons development; Developing Report structures based on feedback; a new ethos language; teachers' post-graduate study x10; Sports Day Carousels; BASC continuing to thrive; supporting charities - RSPB, Children's Cancer; FOLG event successes - Elfridges, circus, Fun Run... and breathe. There has been so much hard work from so many people to benefit everyone.

Personally, I am so proud to lead the school - my tenth year of headship no less - and I hold on to the paraphrased wise words of Captain Jean Luc Picard, "My success as a leader is defined by the success of the individuals I lead." We are so lucky to have such a talented and successful group of teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, Governors, FOLG members, students, parents and a wider supportive Croxley Community, helping us all to do the best for everyone

Let us never compromise on that

Thank you all for contributing to a brilliant year. I look forward to 2023-24 with even more excitement and a range of developments and opportunities to enjoy. Please continue to drive your good habits through the summer - read, explore, spend 5 minutes with Maths Doodle and Lexia and TT Rockstars and the Reading challenge - and then come back in September ready to work hard as a community for our community. Have a wonderful, safe, kind, positive, learning summer break!

Yours sincerely,

Mr Roberts

A YEAR IN SPORT AT LITTLE GREEN

Little Green have been extremely successful when it comes to sport in the 2022-23 academic year, with multiple District Championships, County Competitions, Regional Titles & National Finals to name a few. Some individuals in the school have gone above and beyond in their sports and achieved fantastic success this year, but it is in the team sports where Little Green have truly excelled. To win all five of the available District Leagues in team sports, something never done before by a single school, is a testament to the amazing ability of the children involved in those teams. The collaboration and togetherness of the pupils at the school has been a real driving force behind the astounding achievements and I have the absolute pleasure of sharing with you some of the main accomplishments from our sports teams this school year.                   - Mr Rivers

A big thank you also to all of the organisers - especially Mr Flint who took on the logistics role this morning.

Stationery sets

Save yourself the summer stationery shopping stress and buy now!  Sourced by Mr Flint so all of the equipment in the packs is school approved!

The flash sale price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £10 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. The pack contains 2 writing pens, a green pen, 2 HB pencils, a pair of scissors (you can specify right or left handed), Pritt Stick, eraser, Boogie sharpener, 30 cm ruler, whiteboard pen, highlighter all contained in a clear pencil case. These can then be sent straight to your child's classroom or be held at the school office for you to pick up.

Second hand uniform

Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via  folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p. Send an email outlining the items you wish to order - remember to include sizes and your child's class - you will then receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect from the school office.

Notes:

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please can we draw your attention to the following:

The Tesco Community Grant Scheme - In-store Vote

We are in the customer vote for a Tesco Community Grant. It’s a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £1,500. Tesco customers will vote in the Rickmansworth store from now until the end of September to decide how much funding we get, so please support us next time you shop at Tesco and place your token in the Little Green Garden to Plate project box. We are hoping to use the funds to purchase a poly tunnel for gardening projects.

Many thanks for your support,

The Little Green Team

NOTES:

Please do show kindness to everyone when using all of the paths to and from school. The end of the day is always a busy time and, as requested by parents, we do have a 2-way system.

Many thanks for supporting the community.

CAR PARK REMINDER

Just a polite reminder that parents should not be driving into the car park for any reason.

Only Blue Badge holders should be accessing the car park. Thank you.
