Explorer Afternoons - a carousel of learning
We have been developing our Explorer Afternoons a little more this week and Year 5 trialed the new carousel of explorer activities on Thursday. Through a six week period, the children will enjoy each of the activities supporting their team, working, collaboration, creativity, reflection and curiosity. It was lovely to see how positive every group was - I thought I'd share.
Curious Debate: Ms Crawford leads a conversation on how we are a diverse community of individuals.
Hands On Gardening: Ms Cleary and Mr Brailsford support individual scarecrow building for the garden
Voice Art: Ms Wilson leads children in designing their own graffiti to explain kindness.
Explore Outdoor: Ms Swinchatt supports children exploring relationships using nature as art
Lego thinking: Ms Finch supports children exploring family with lego and roll play
Technological Voice: Mr Faria supports children to compete an individual wellbeing survey
We look forward to seeing how the other years embrace the afternoons and look forward to developing them further with the children and parents. Exciting Times!
It's that colder darker time of year again when the car starts to feel far more appealing...
A personal thank you to Mr Butcher and Mr Pattni, the school's Parent Parking Advisors. Chet and Alex support the school to keep the children safe. Please do take on their friendly advice if they suggest your parking may be a little concerning. We lost Mr Dover last year as his son moved to Year 7 and we would love to have a few more volunteer parents supporting the community., the children and the school. Please do email me: admin@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk if you would be willing to offer advice and support to parents struggling to park safely.
For our newer parents, please see Newsweb 6 from last year: to understand the work we have done and are putting in to, what turns out be, a very complex issue.
I copy in the Road Safety Council's map of last year below showing some sensible places to park a few minutes walk away and we thank you for supporting us.
and our Parent Parking advice leaflet.
I was delighted to be contacted by an inspired pupil who had been reading about Food Banks. Stanley wants to make a difference and, with the support of his mum, he has found a food bank still open to donations so that we can help our local community. He would love it if everyone was able to bring in one thing from the list below to help our local friends and neighbours at the Watford Food Bank (The Rickmansworth Food Bank is currently well stocked.)
Please could donations come in on Monday and they will be collected and taken to Watford Food Bank on Friday 7th October. (Next week.)
The items we most need at the moment are:
Long-life milk
Long-life fruit juice
Tinned meat + fish
Jars of jam/ honey/ peanut butter/ chocolate spread

Instant mashed potato
Tinned tomatoes
Bags of sugar (especially 500g bags)
Tinned rice pudding/custard

Stationery sets
Thank you to everyone who ordered stationery sets - it was the first time FOLG had tried this and it seemed to go relatively smoothly. All packs should have now been received by those who placed orders.
If you missed out on ordering stationery sets we have received new stock and will be opening the opportunity to order on PTA events again - the introductory price has unfortunately finished so packs will now be priced at a very competitive £8 (still far cheaper than you can source on the high street!) and can be ordered via: www.pta-events.co.uk/folg. Information of what is contained in the packs can be found at this link.
Second hand uniform
Good quality second hand uniform can be ordered from Faye via folg-uniform@littlegreen.herts.sch.uk - most items are just 50p. Send an email outlining the items you wish to order - remember to include sizes and your child's class - you will then receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect from the school office.
