This term we changed the raffle a little to give a little more focus to the prizes and spread the FOLG love a little further. What did this look like?
Each year group had 5 x £10 amazing vouchers (still children's choice) with 2 that were picked out of the raffle and three that were awarded (one for each teacher) to the children showing incredible endeavor: Some of the winners and the reasons they were picked are below. Well done to everyone who won even one raffle ticket. Every teacher started their explanation to the school with just how hard it was to only identify one amazing learner among so many. Well done to the whole school community for a lovely spring term. We are ready to bloom in the summer!

Ask your kids:
Who won the House Award this term?
How many points separate first and last overall?
With two terms of the year flying by, we are already thinking about preparing children for transition and the bumper summer term. This will include an increase in expectations around behaviour for all children - see below!
Finally, we have developed our social media offer including Instagram now embedded on the school website, and we will no longer be spending valuable time creating a weekly Newsweb. This will free up time for other critical elements. We will aim to share a termly Newsweb and look forward to your feedback. For regular readers, thank you for your readership! See you on Instagram!
With Junior School as a bridge to Secondary School, we do have a responsibility to ensure children understand their behaviour responsibilities. Talk to any Secondary Pupil parent and the sanction consequence is used for the smallest infraction. At Little Green we take pride in our therapetic approach supporting all children to learn to behave. Two terms in to the year, we can now expect a higher level of expectation and we will be using more of our educational and protective consequences to ensure everyone is kind and safe and positively learning!
On Monday, we debated if it is ever OK to hurt someone and followed the logic that this is only in the most extreme circumstances where there is no other choice. When there is no help available and you cannot run away. I share the children's arguments to the side.
At school we expect all children to get support and we work hard to investigate and apply appropriate consequences as required. I also shared the behaviour policy with the children to make clear the school's approach to repeated low level behaviour and other unsafe and unkind behaviours.
Do take a look at the expected behaviours and consequences and discuss these with your child. Whilst we do not name and shame children, we do follow this policy carefully and this will highlight the support children receive whenever a behaviour is identified.
We will be spending some time over Easter reviewing some of our support to ensure that we are able to meet everyone's needs fairly ensuring all children have the right to a kind safe positive learning environment. We will share more information after Easter as the plans develop.
We talked to the children about the human habit of focusing on the negatives. Children recognised that they sometimes only focus on the one bad thing in their day or week and that their parents may only hear about the bad things giving a very unfair perception of the school.
Only today I was walking to school and was able to praise a child about his amazing contributions to a debate - they really were brilliant considered, measured and logical responses to justify an alternative position to his peers.
Dad's response spoke volumes and reflects my own parenting experiences:
"Why didn't you tell me that! That's amazing!!"
Which was responded to with a sullen, " I don't know" and a shrug.
I have asked the children to be fully honest with you all and to make sure they share everything good as well as areas to develop with you.
To explain this we used green and red disks to highlight the reasonable perceptions some parents may develop with only a filtered review of the school experience. As always, please do come and see this with your own eyes - I am as proud as ever of the efforts and achievements of the school staff and children in their impressive learning experiences and successes. Let's make sure we are contributing to a fair narrative of our school and community and use evidence to challenge anyone sharing unfair perceptions of the school - mud sticks and damages us all.
Well done Sophie for your passionate plea for change! Here is Sophie's letter to the Parish Council:
Dear Counsellors,
I have noticed that people are leaving cigarettes and litter sunbathing on the pavements and road. On my way to school and back I have been picking up all sorts of things including cigarettes and different varieties of cans. Year 5 is my year, and we are the eco counsel year.
My teacher is the Eco Leader of Little Green, us year 5's are trying really hard to pick up all of the litter but there's not enough hands! Please inform people of this tragedy to the world and our beloved animals are becoming really ill and sick. They are dying because it's not safe. The pollution is not good but in a bin will help. Please, please help us to save the environment and to help the planet. Also the presentation isn't good because people are throwing litter onto Little Green's premises and property. Please can Little Green School have some local bins next to some of the gates. We have 360 children so over 650 journeys each day. When I walk around to other schools all of them have bins there or nearby so please can we have a bin. There are bins at other schools in Croxley. Why not ours?
