Art

First - pair up (or of numbers necessitate, for groups of three). First, do a little exploring: you can start by clicking first on the names - those links should give you bio and background, and you can scroll down to see some art. Spend about 10 minutes or so with this (together) before you choose the artists to focus on. Then, each person choose one artist and/or exhibition (if that's what is listed) from each grouping ("Pop Art," "Black Arts Movement," Feminist Movement") to more thoroughly explore (pick different artists so that you can gain exposure to more when you get together tomorrow). Work by yourselves now. You can continue to explore the pieces on the ArtStory site, look at the videos (where appropriate) and/or click on other links. For each artist, choose a couple of pieces to more fully explore. Write down the title, size, medium, etc. then describe what you see. Read over your description and write about your reaction to the art, how you understand it fitting into its movement (based on the videos, your own prior knowledge, info on the page, etc). Wrestle with the art, try to understand through the frame of the times, the movement, other art, etc. You'll share these tomorrow in groups.
