March

3/27: We started a new practice in class today - blue book listening, responding and thinking. Periodically Ill ask you to listen to, summarize and respond to short readings, poems, video clips, etc. Several purposes here - to expose you to a variety of readings and other storytelling media, to strengthen listening skills, sharpen inference and analytical skills and to respond to a wide range of materials. We'll use the blue books for these responses. Today, I read a chapter from Piecing Me Together and asked students to summarize after they listened, then tell me, based on the text, who was right - Sam or Jade (narrator) and to support their answers with specifics from the text. We also watched" Zoom Out" - a performance poem by Kealoha. Students wrote down lines and images they found most memorable. GRADE
