Reflection outline and other review materials are attached below as well ("Review sheet for the Eng 11 exam 2017).
ALL YEAR; PLEASE be sure to check the Personal Creed Project Page whenever you are out of school. We will be working on this all year, and the work you miss might be there.
12/7: Today is the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I would like us to think and read some about that day. On the front of the notecard, please write about what you know about the attack, its effect in the world, its effect in the country, etc. Tell me what you’ve been taught, show off with some interesting details, etc. Then, we are going to read together two first person accounts of that day. One is from Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady at the time (attached below) and one from John Garcia (attached below), a 16 year old who worked at Pearl Harbor Navy Yard. After we’ve read on the back of the notecard: reflect on both first person accounts of the day. What struck you as important from each of them and why? What details did you find most interesting and why? How do these first person accounts serve to reinforce what you knew already and how do they add to/change/ sharpen what you know. Strive to fill both sides of the card, DEFINITELY fill the back of the card.
Starting 12/6: we are working on the "Evaluating Advertising" page.
Starting 11/28: We are working on BOTH the gratitude page AND the Hopper page (see links below).
NOVEMBER: PLEASE also see the reading reflection (below) if you have not yet done so.
11/4: W e are working on the "Facing It and other materials page" link below).
Welcome to English 11/12! Please read the syllabus (attached below) and write down any questions you have on the back of the worksheet.
After you are done with that, go to "Important Class Documents" and read the "class rules" (we will go over grading together). Please complete the worksheet as you do. When you are done with all of that, click on the "Out, Out" link below to read and watch a video that will give you background to a poem we will be working on in class.
If you are joining the class later, make sure to complete the work in "Eng 11 opening day" (that's two pages) and "Eng 11 reading survey" attached below.
