Koran chapter notes F Block

My additional notes:

"Women" - reverence to God is the recurring thematic idea.

men, women and children are all provided for financially in the Koran. The dowry is for women's economic protection. It belongs to them

"Anyone, male or female,/who does what is good/and is faithful/will enter the Garden/and will not be pressed at all."

"The Table" - guidance + light = the Koran

judging must be done by God's law (those who judge in any other way are rebellious and ungrateful)

" they will strive in the way of God [jihad]/ without fear of the censure of critics./ That is the grace of God,/who bestows it on anyone at will;"

"The Family of Imran" - forgiveness = garden

study of history is a guide to right path

humility is key

Criterion - Koran (it distinguishes what is true and what has been falsely interpreted)

watch out for metaphor as a means of interpretation (too much room for misunderstanding)

"The Cattle" - key of the unseen = TRUTH

recitation of God's laws as a way to reject the arguments of disbelievers

standing by and watching others reject the TRUTH without trying to help makes you an oppressor

doing what seems pleasurable (but is against TRUTH) is the nature of habit, of obsession, of self-delusion

"Light"+ - a few more symbols: Light as TRUTH is part of an extended metaphor that includes lamp and lighting in a house

unseen key is God's path

those who are unbelievers because they are distracted by. worshipping something else are like those who see a "mirage" on a desert plain. They are also in "darkness" and they are in the "ocean, with waves" crashing over them.

birds are singled out as animals who are particularly tuned into God's message.
