3/20: Finishing work on the relationship sketches. See "Relationship Sketch Exodus and Numbers" attached below.
New portfolio ("Heroes and Kings") attached below (H on page 1, CPA on page 2). Please print.
3/17: Please see "Commandment notecards." attached below. We started our discussion on the 10 Commandments (it will continue...). Keep up with the reading schedule.
3/13: HOMEWORK: Read Ex 20 and the Commandments handout I gave you in class. I've also posted the reading schedule for the month below ("Reading schedule for March Bible 2017"). In class, we worked on creating character sketches for the relationships we've encountered in Exodus.
3/10: HOMEWORK: Read chapters 15-19.
In small groups, people began working on characteristics of relationships in Exodus: God - Moses, Moses - God, God in Exodus - God in Genesis, God - Israelites, Israelites - God.
Tackling the plagues: We talked about several of the questions/points class made on the notecard about God's character, about the plagues, about genocide, Moses' role, etc. We read through 14 in class. We looked at art (including a clip from Prince of Egypt of the 10th plague and Gustave Dore's illustration of the same plague).
3/7: On the front of the notecard: revisit some of the questions, some of the best insights, some of the differences, etc. that you saw in the first few chapters of Exodus (look in your blue book to get you started. On the back of the notecard: please look at the Moses and the Burning Bush sculpture by Philip Ratner (attached below) - first, describe what you see, then analyze the piece. How is Moses portrayed, how is God? Who has your sympathy and why? How does this reshape, challenge, reinforce the story and why does that matter? Fill both sides of the card.
3/6: We started reading Exodus today (1-6). Blue book assignment is attached ("bb early Exodus").
