I am going to post here some materials we won't cover in class - some that directly connect to the work we are doing and some that I think are worth your time. I hope you take the time to look.
Here's an important piece about men, masculinity and sexual assault written by Detroit Linebacker Deandre Levy.
This is a really terrific "anatomy of a scene lesson for you Novel and film alum. It's from Hitchcock's Vertigo.
"One Last Time" from Hamilton. In 5 minutes, Lin-Manuel Miranda is able to capture Washington's nobility and the great (so often under-stated) service to our democracy - leaving the presidency when the people wanted him to be king.
Interview with Ken Burns about his new Jackie Robinson Documentary (cannot wait!!! It's coming in April) and a very important conversation about race in our nation with Ken Burns and Henry Louis Gates. BOTH are really worth your time. 101 Women artists you should know.
Terrific interview with a writer who has just written a book about the Supreme Court decision that made forced sterilization legal and kept out European Jews and Italians from being able to emigrate. Without this law, it is very likely that Otto Frank and his daughter Anne would likely have been allowed into the U.S. before they had to go into hiding. This story has implications for Contemporary American Culture and The Great Gatsby (the books Tom read).
This is what I did on my special extra day of the year (and I watched John Oliver, but I would have done that anyway..).
Newly discovered tablet of Gilgamesh deepens the story of Humbaba. You can hear part of the epic (I think it's the flood story) read in its original language here

The Simpsons weigh in on the election.
Astronaut Scott Kelly is coming home soon (he's been orbiting the earth for almost a year). Here's his most recent interview from space (beautiful visuals).

Terrific interview with DeRay McKesson about Black Lives Matter on The Daily Show.
An article about the very modern issue of women wearing pants.
Beyonce's "Formation"
SNL's brilliant response to the controversy about Beyonce's "Formation."
Here's the opening number from Hamilton as performed on the Grammys.
Kendrick Lamar at the Grammys.
Great hour about the gravitational wave discovery and what it means.
