1/12: Exam review sheet attached below (it also includes organizers for the essays).
1/7: We read 81-87 today and wrote about Michael's relationship to his family on the worksheet for chapter 4 below.
12/17: Easter Rising we started chapter 4. We read 10 pages. See worksheet below.
12/15: Easter Rising music project due next Tuesday (12/23). See attachment below.
12/9: We finished chapter 3 today and worked on the worksheet (see below "Easter Rising chapter 3")
12/8: Easter Rising chapter 3: We’re going to be thinking about how music grabs us, reflects our circumstances and helps us to make sense of the world. As you listen to “Gloria” read the lyrics – underline lines (at least 4) that you think might have drawn Michael to the song, given his life and his circumstances.
After we’ve read more in chapter 3, at the bottom of the lyrics, make connections between the music, Michael’s life and what we read today. Tell me 3 ways Michael is struggling to form his identity and/or deal with his life, and how the music is helping with that struggle.
PLEASE have your parents sign the Good Will Hunting permission slips. If you lost yours, one is attached below.
12/3: Easter Rising: on the back of yesterday’s notecard (where there is still room to write*) describe what you hear when you listen to the song I play (write just a few sentences: they can be about anything you notice – the rhythm, the sound, lines of lyrics, the “feel,” etc.) Then, THINK about Michael’s state of mind (after Davey’s death, feeling lost in the world, etc.) and tell me WHY this music and/or this scene might have attracted him. Fill the rest of the card.
* If you don’t have any more room on your card, please come take another and fill just one side. Make sure you turn both cards in.
12/2: Easter Rising chapter two: Before we begin: on the front of the notecard: write down what you remember from yesterday about Michael’s life – where does he live, what is his family like, what are his living conditions like. Write as much as you remember. Then, after we’ve read through a couple of pages in chapter 2 today, I will ask you to add to it with new information so you can fill the front of the card.
