Islam and Sufism

Citations for the Nasrudin book. You need two entries (these are in alphabetical order): Shah, Idries. The Exploits of the Incomparable Mulla Nasrudin. London: Octagon, 1983. Print. Shah, Idries. The Subtleties of the Inimitable Mulla Nasrudin. London: Octagon, 1983. Print.

When you parenthetically cite, use the first different word (Exploits 45)

You can find the Nasrudin story notes in your class' folder: B Block folder, C Block folder

C Block contents: Lincoln Memorial, "Surrounded by Sleep," American Today, What you know about Islam, 5 pillars and reflection about why they matter, 6 aims chart, "Sayings of the Prophet," Symbols, 2 Nasrudin entries (1-10, 12-21).

for 9/30: Read 31-61 in Exploits.

9/26: On one side of the notecard, write abut one of the stories from 1-10. Give me the story total, a brief plot summary then play with the story as much as you can (symbols, Islamic principles, what if Nas is the fool. what if he is wise). On the back of the notecard, do the same for a different story.

9/25: Tonight read the next 10 stories in Exploits (through "The Sermon of Nas"). Reflect on the stories like you did in class today (2 bb pages)

9/16: Please read through the "Sayings of the Prophet" Highlight 10 that interest you. Reflect on 5 of those 10 in your blue book (at least a page total).

Over the weekend (9/12-14): Read "The Table," "Light" and "Night." Instructions are below ("Table+").

Here is Lesley Hazelton's TED talk. My notes about it are attached below, as are the Islam bullets and the Five Pillars.
