5/21: HOMEWORK (seniors): The final exam prompt/review is attached to the Contemporary American Culture page. Please read and come with questions. Please also bring in unused coupons by Wednesday (I will not accept these after Wednesday's class). In class: we watched an excerpt from Ken Burns' Vietnam about Kent State and its aftermath and looked at John Filo's famous photograph (see the War Memorials link below). If you were out, you can l listen to this podcast.

5/18: C BLOCK: We worked with both My Lai and "Nature of the Beast" in an effort to think about our role as citizens when our nation goes to war.

5/17: C BLOCK HOMEWORK: See the first page of "My Lai Reflection + Nature of the Beast" attached below (the short story is also attached - "Nature of the Beast" .pdf). In class: we finished watching clips from Four Hours in My Lai (you'll find the film here - start at 33:00 and watch through 49:00). B BLOCK HOMEWORK: see page 2 of "My Lai Reflection + Nature of the Beast" attached below. In class, we watched two extended clips from Four Hours in My Lai (you'll find the film here - start at 6:00 and watch until 30:00 then reject about what you saw, your reaction, etc. Then continue from 30:00 - 49:00 and do the same).

5/16: C Block: We reexamined Gellhorn for images that stayed with us, for the effect on our understanding of war and compared it to R Heberlee's photograph of My Lai (attached below - see "my-lai- page-a1"). We also watched an extended clip from Four Hours in My Lai (you'll find the film here - start at 7:30 and watch until 33:44).

5/11: HOMEWORK: See "Charlie Company and Small Unit War" attached below. Read the Martha Gellhorn piece and complete that notecard for Tuesday (start on page 378 - "Civilian Casualties in South Vietnam"). In class, we talked through an overview of Vietnam, then looked at "Charlie Company..." and Vietnam photographs (see link below).

5/10: HOMEWORK: See "Charlie Company and Small Unit War" attached below. For Friday: ONLY read and respond to "Charlie Company" (one side of the notecard). Read the Martha Gellhorn piece and complete that notecard for Tuesday (start on page 378 - "Civilian Casualties in South Vietnam"). The piece is attached below (Vietnam Martha Gellhorn p. 1 - p. 4). In class: We revisited the Rockwell paintings (Murder in Mississippi and Southern Justice) in an effort to think about the artistic implications of both.
