Success

10/28: Let’s try, for the book check in, to think about whether you are seeing habits of success in the book you are reading. THINK* about one character and try to apply what we have been talking about to the character to see whether or not that character exhibits any of the traits that Tony Robbins and/or Angela Duckworth think are important to create a successful life. On the front of the notecard: tell me a little bit about the character (who s/he is and what s/he is doing) then look back at what either Robbins or Duckworth said about success to see whether or not your character has what it takes.

*If this will not work for your book, tell me what motivates a character in your book, what does s/he want and what is s/he willing to do to get it.

** If you have not read enough in your book to do this, think of a person you know in your life who you could measure using these definitions of success. Fill the front of the card.

Then, we are going to watch a brief talk about success by Ron Gutman. On the back of the notecard: make a statement summarizing Gutman’s ideas about what can bring success. Then, make a list of the evidence he uses to back it up. Finally, reflect on his ideas – what do you think? How do his ideas reinforce or reshape your thinking about success? Fill the back of the card.

10/25: We listened to Angela Duckworth's portion of the Ted Radio Hour and success (starting at 12:30 - 21:00) and completed page 2 of the "Success Podcast Worksheet." Here's where we are going with all of this: I will ask you to synthesize the different views of success that we've been exploring (from Good Will Hunting and Ted Radio Hour) into a personal essay about success.

10/19: We started listening to the Ted Radio Hour episode about different views of Success (look for the worksheet attached below "Success podcast practice"). You can find the episode here.
