starting bb: Look at the Hopper painting Room By the Sea (attached below). For five minutes, describe what you see (do this as we have all semester - start with "plot" and setting then move to color, light and other elements of art. After you've finished, read what you wrote, look back at the painting for a minute or two and make a list of words that you would associate with the feeling of the piece.
After the first section of Moulin Rouge! react on a note card. On the front of the notecard, react to the film. Tell me what you are thinking, feeling, etc. about the movie and the experience watching. Are you confused? Loving it? On Visual overload, etc? On the back: try to make some preliminary connections to To The Lighthouse. THINK character, art, theme: FREEDOM, BEAUTY, TRUTH, LOVE, etc. Fill the back of the card.
