Grade breakdown
La calificación comprende tres partes.

(Summative assessments)
Los exámenes usualmente ocurren después de completar una unidad del libro, cada dos viernes (o más si es Español honores III Nativos.) Las pruebas se dan sin previo aviso.
(In regard to summative assesments:
Test dates usually take place after the completion of one unit from the textbook, every other Friday (or more if is Natives III honors.) On the other hand, quizzes will be unannounced.)
La calificación de un examen cubre la nota de una prueba con ausencia justificada. Si la falta es injustificada se pondrá un cero. Cuidado con hacer trampa en las evaluaciones. Recuerde el principio de integridad con honestidad, respeto y responsabilidad personal. Manténgase informado y conectado sobre su asistencia para evitar sorpresas al final del semestre. Se permitirá hacer el examen pendiente si hay falta injustificada pero el cero permanecerá hasta que se justifique la falta. Si un estudiante no llega a tiempo puede correr el riesgo de no hacer una prueba o examen. Todos los estudiantes hacen los exámenes finales sin excepción.
(The grade from a test will be automatically transferred to a missing quiz if absence is excused in the system, 0 if it is unexcused. There are no make-ups for cuts. Be aware of our integrity principle with honesty, respect and personal responsibility during evaluations. Keep track of your attendance record under the interconnectedness principle. If the student makes up a test for an unexcused absent the zero will remain until the absence is excused. If a student is late for a quiz/test day he/she may not be allowed to make up the missing portion. All students must do finals no exceptions.)
Participación oral 20%
(Formative assessment: oral participation)
Por favor tome en cuenta la importancia de la participación oral al aprender un idioma. Los estudiantes deben demostrar que saben comunicarse en el nuevo idioma, por ello es indispensable que participen durante la clase cuando el maestro puede evaluarlos. La participación debe ser ordenada demostrando uso del principio de interconexión e intelecto.
(In regards to oral participation:
Please be aware of how important the oral participation is in order to learn a foreign language. Students must demonstrate that they know how to communicate in the target language, therefore it is crucial for them to participate during class where teacher is able to evaluate them. It must be in an orderly manner showing the use of the interconnectedness and the intellect principles).
La participación se califica a través de puntos durante la clase u otras acciones positivas (escribiendo en tu diario después de leer y manteniendo un record de lecturas.) Los estudiantes obtienen puntos cada día (diez) por atender la clase puntualmente y por participar individualmente, pero también pierden puntos cuando no cooperan o salen de la clase. Los puntos acumulados actúan como fondo de reserva para cubrir ausencias o llegar tarde ocasionalmente. Si la reserva no es suficiente cuando llegan tarde o la ausencia es habitual o prolongada, hay opciones para los estudiantes ausentes más de dos días justificados cada dos semanas. Por favor vuelve a leer aquí si no lo has hecho bien.
(Participation points will be granted for participation in class, randomly for voluntary participation and/or more extra points for other tasks (keeping a reading log and writing on your diary after reading.) Such accumulated points will act as a reserve fund. Participation grade is based on attendance and punctuality and, the reserved points will be used to cover up for a day of absence or a couple of times being tardy. Reserved points are never enough to cover for habitual tardiness, breaking the rules often or, being out of class frequently (with or without excuse). There are options to make up participation points for those students absent more than two days within the graded period of time. Please take a look at this option.)
Tareas y trabajo en clase 15%
(Formative assessment: classwork)
Los trabajos de clase valen 10 puntos cada uno y todo estudiante es responsable de hacer el trabajo. Se revisa al final de cada lección o durante los siguientes días según el tiempo disponible. Los estudiantes pueden entregar trabajos tarde siempre y cuando, observando los principios de integridad e intelecto:
a. El estudiante no está utilizando el tiempo de la clase para completar trabajos anteriores.
b. El trabajo se entrega dentro de la siguiente semana.
Si un estudiante ha estado ausente, tiene el mismo número de días para entregar sus trabajos siempre y cuando observe lo anterior, Como los trabajos se aceptan tarde no hay opciones de hacer extra crédito.
[In regard to classwork assignments:
Class assignments are worth 10 points each and every student is accountable for such work. It will be reviewed for completion either at the end of each lesson and/or the following days as time permits. Students may turn in older work throughout the semester up to one week before finals and receive 100% credit provided the teacher has not graded such assignment yet and is observing integrity and intellect principles:
a. Student is not utilizing the day's class time to complete such old assignments that need to be submitted
b. Late work must be submitted within the following week.
If a student has been absent and such absence is excused, the student will have the same amount of days to turn in the work observing procedures explained above. Since late work is accepted there is no extra credit option.
