1st and 6th Period:

1. Class began by discussing the following 3 questions that students answered yesterday:

a. How do we know that the people/civilizations we have discussed on the Timeline of Human History actually existed?

b. define history.

c. define pre-history

- the class then discussed how hiSTORY is really the story of the past. How do historians piece together the puzzle of history? --> by examining ARTIFACTS (hand-made objects --> art, shelter, clothing, pottery, etc.).

2. Students are to act like historians - to put together the puzzle of these "Unknown Artifacts." For the Unknown Artifact Activity, students filled out the attached handout with a partner after viewing images that were projected by Ms. Pretet. Students should examine all facets of the objects to determine: what the object is, where it is from, and what its purpose is. Try to be creative!

After students completed their guesses, Ms. Pretet went over what the objects actually were.

Homework:

1. Fill out the "REFLECTION QUESTIONS" on the back of the "Unknown Artifacts" Worksheet - see attachment
