1st Period

- Today in class, we discussed "The True Size of Countries" Activity that was started last week. Next, students watched the following clip: West Wing - Why Are We Changing Maps? Students were given the following questions/quotes to consider in their free write (specifically in connection to maps) - What do maps have to do with social equality? - "In our society, we unconsciously equate size with importance and even power." - "When 3rd World Countries are misrepresented, they are likely to be valued less."

Students were given 7 minutes to complete their free write.

Next, the class went over the Map Assignment that was given on Friday. Students were called up to the projector to point out the key elements of the map assignment.

5th Period:

- Today, the class went over the Map Assignment that was given on Friday. Students were called up to the projector to point out the key elements of the map assignment.

- Next, students were given a large piece of paper (11 by 17 inches). Students drew a horizontal line through the paper (1/2 down). Students were then prompted to create a "Timeline of Human History" - based on information that they could recall. Students were prompted to think of key people, events (war?), inventions, diseases, etc. to include. Students should place the date of the even on their timeline if they can recall it, but if they cannot recall the date, try to put the events on the timeline in chronological order (for example, World War I comes before World War II).
