Today in class, we reviewed how the definition of psychology has changed over time, focusing on specific perspectives of psychology (structuralism, functionalism, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanism, and cognitive).

Next, the class watched short clip on Ryan Lochte and the controversy surrounding him and the Rio Olympics. Students then were to write down at least 3 reasons for why Ryan Lochte behaved the way that he did (vandalizing private property, walking away, lying about the events that happened that night, etc).

The class then discussed the 3 Ways to View Human Behavior (Perspectives Wheel on the front of the Timeline Worksheet). Students should ask the question, "Why do people behave the way that they do?" The three ways to answer that question involve 1. nature, 2. nurture, and 3. the mind. Each one of those can be further broken down into different perspectives. For example, 1. nature involves the evolutionary perspective and neuroscience perspective. The class annotated the Perspectives for buzz words associated with each perspective. In addition, students shared out reasons for why Ryan Lochte behaved the way that he did based on the perspective we were discussing.

Ways You Can Study
