Today in class, we continued our discussion of how our "Actions --> Attitude." For this section of the diagram, we discussed...

1. role-playing: Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment - what happened with the guards and prisoners

2. foot-in-the-door phenomenon (discussed on Friday)

3. cognitive dissonance - to explore this concept, the class determined how strongly they agreed or disagreed with 3 statements (1- state of homelessness is problem in the U.S.; 2 - animals should be treated with respect similar to humans; 3 - access to water is a necessity of life). The class then moved around the room - so all the 5's were in one spot in the room, all the 4's in another spot in the room, etc. Ms. Pretet then asked a follow up question to the 5's and asked them to explain themselves. This follow up question was meant to make students feel the discomfort of dissonance - when a thought and action to not agree. The class then connected this to cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive Dissonance Video - part of this was shown in 7th period - REALLY GREAT EXAMPLES

Homework:

1. Journal Module 78, objective 15 - see syllabus attached below
