"Jehovah Sabaoth" : The Lord of hosts is His Name, the Holy One of Israel

Isaiah 47:4 says, “As for our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is His Name, the Holy One of Israel”. Prophetically, the Name of our Redeemer God is revealed as “the Lord of hosts” i.e. JEHOVAH SABAOTH. Our Lord is having a host of angels or an army of angels. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him and delivers them (Ps.34: 7). The Lord of hosts sends His angels to deliver His people from the hands of the devil, and to perform miracles. When the king of Syria along with his great army came to fight against the king of Israel, the Lord opened the eyes of the servant of Elisha, and he saw that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kings 6:10-17).Elkanath, the son of Jeroham lived in Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim. He had two wives. One of them was Hannah who had no children. The other one was Peninnah who had children. Elkanath went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Whenever the time came for Elkanath to make an offering, he would give portions to his two wives. But to Hannah he would give a worthy portion for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. Year by year when she went up to the house of the Lord, Peninnah used to provoke her. Therefore, Hannah wept and did not eat. She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head”. Eli, the priest of God, told her, “Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of Him”. After worshiping the Lord of hosts, they returned to their house at Ramah. Then it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his son Samuel saying, “Because I have asked him of the Lord” (I Sam.1: 1-20).

Here, our God reveals Himself as the Lord of hosts. Elkanath and Hannah received a great blessing with the birth of Samuel because both of them had been going to the house of the Lord every year for worshipping and sacrificing to the Lord of hosts.

Are you like this godly couple visiting the church regularly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts? Still the Lord has not yet granted your prayer request either for a child or for some other blessing, which you need desperately today. The Word of God says that the Lord of hosts “remembered Hannah”. The Lord of hosts does remember all your sacrifices at His altar. You would have offered intercessory prayers or sacrificial offerings at His altar. Like Hannah, you would have wept in your secret places or in the house of the Lord. The Lord has seen all your afflictions and tears. He has now come to bless you. Under the New Covenant, the Lord of hosts is not afar off. He is with us. If you live in Christ and He lives in you, then the Lord of hosts has taken His abode in your heart.
