Timothy Ian Woolley had plenty of rides under National Hunt rules in the 1980s and won four races. A conditional jockey with Paul Felgate, he had his first ride at Kelso on December 19, 1983, when Belle Isle Boy was tailed off in the Earlston Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.
His first success came at Huntingdon on April 20, 1985, when Critic, trained by Paul Felgate, took advantage of the leader My Friend taking the wrong course early in the race, making the rest to win the Abbots Ripton Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle by two lengths. They had one more start together, finishing fourth at Plumpton the following month.
More than a year passed before Tim scored again, with Misty Mirage just getting the better of Do Or Die at the end of the Stublic Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Hexham on May 12, 1986, the six-year-old winning by a head despite wandering about on the run-in.
His wait for a third victory was even longer, However, at Warwick on November 7, 1987, Fishing Smack had a length and a half to spare over Chaise Longue at the end of the Willersey Selling Handicap Hurdle. Tim kept the ride and was placed twice from five starts.
There was a final win for him at Southwell 17 days later when Shallow Walk proved far too good for his rivals in the Burton Joyce Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Hurdle, coasting home by 20 lengths. The six-year-old had been second at the same course the previous week with Tim on board. He had two more rides on Shallow Walk that season but was unplaced both times.
