Clive Wilfred Weatherley had one win under National Hunt rules, at Chepstow on March 20, 1954, and that was by the narrowest of margins.
Based with Earl Jones at Guiting Power, near Cheltenham, Clive had his first ride at Warwick on February 22, 1954, when finishing second on Cillas Cottage in the Napton Handicap Hurdle, beaten three lengths by Les Fisher on Scottish Faith.
The pair were then unplaced in a novices’ chase at Hereford on March 6, but when reverting to hurdles at Chepstow a fortnight later they were soon in front, and though headed for a while, they came through to regain the lead two flights out and just held off the fast finishing Pepito II to prevail by a short head, despite carrying 1lb overweight.
Clive kept the ride on the nine-year-old and was placed three times in four outings. However, his brief career ended with a fall on Boyne Battle in the Teign Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot on August 14, 1954.
He held a licence for the 1959/60 season but appears to have had very few, if any, opportunities.
