John Weston

John Richard Weston, from Hindlip, Worcester, was born on June 5, 1949 and twice rode the winner of Cheltenham’s Overbury Chase.

By far the best horse he rode was Michael Oliver’s talented but ill-fated chaser Master H, on whom he won three times. The first of those victories came in the Leisure Caravan Parks Chase at Sandown on February 4, 1977, getting the better of a sustained battle with Michael Dickinson’s mount Broncho II, with John Francome on Bula eight lengths further back in third place.

The following season John rode Master H to win a pair of amateur riders’ chases, at Kempton on November 17 and at Taunton on December 27, 1977.

His best seasonal score was six.
