Although Richard Walker may have won on his first mount under National Hunt rules, he did not have many rides and his career lasted for only just over 15 months.
Associated with the Middleham stable of legendary Captain Neville Crump, it was on the five-year-old Carne Gray, owned and trained by Crump, that he had his one victory. It came at Doncaster on January 8, 1976, when the winner held off the strong challenge of Moss Gray to land the Fitzwilliam Opportunity Handicap Hurdle by half a length. Richard kept the ride and managed two placed efforts from three subsequent starts, They were four of just eight rides he had during that season.
His last ride was when unplaced on St Tryst in the Springs Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Wetherby on April 12, 1977.
