Henry Nicholas Weber, known as Harry, was born on 12 April 1900 and was brought up in Ireland.
Educated at Downside and then at Sandhurst Military Academy, he served with the 12th Lancers, Indian Army, and the QVO Guides in the years after the First World War. Promoted to the rank of captain, he left the Army in 1928.
He had been a leading amateur rider in India while serving there. Returning to England he achieved his biggest success when riding Big Wonder to win the 1929 National Hunt Chase. He finished that 1928/29 season as champion amateur. He also represented England at polo.
He turned professional in 1932 but met with little success. He combined riding with training, based at Downs House, Letcombe Bassett, principally under National Hunt rules. By 1934 his string numbered just eight horses.
Henry (Harry) Weber died at Harrogate on 12 October 1949, aged 49.
