Kevin Whyte

Kevin Christopher Whyte was born on February 13, 1958, and was apprenticed to Frenchie Nicholson.

He rode his first winner, Island Mist, at Worcester in 1977 and enjoyed his best season in 1980-81 with 22 winners.

His greatest win came in the 1982 Queen Mother Chase at Cheltenhan aboard Rathgorman. A newspaper wrote that the horse had been 'ridden with incredible aplomb.'

Riding for trainer Neville Crump, he also won the 1983 Scottish Grand National on Canton. Having put up 2-pound overweight, he said after 'I had to battle to lose half a stone in two days. I was thinking of pulling Canton up going into the last circuit as he was not really running.'

Kevin spent a year working as assistant trainer to Monica Dickinson before joining TomTate in the same role.
