Although Lynn Whiffen rode on the Flat, her only win was under National Hunt rules.
She began as an apprentice with Richmond permit holder John Parkes and had one of her earliest rides at Beverley on June 9, 1982, when That’s Magic was unplaced in the Hurn Apprentice Selling Handicap.
She fared no better on her first ride over jumps when Corn Belle was always behind in the Sunniside Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Hexham on October 20, 1982.
Her sole success came at Market Rasen on June 2, 1984 in the penultimate race of the 1983/84 season when Golden Ty, trained by John Parkes, took the lead approaching the last flight and ran on to take the Last Chance Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Hurdle by five lengths. Unfortunately, the form book result misspelt her name as ‘Lyn Wiffen’.
Lynn had what proved to be her final ride in the second race of the 1985/86 campaign at Market Rasen on Saturday, August 3, when Spice Market fell at the fourth flight when leading in the Louth Selling Hurdle. She was taken to hospital with concussion, a broken collarbone and a badly bruised back. She did not ride in races again following that fall.
