Glynn Wilkinson rode six winners over jumps in the early 1980s. He was a conditional jockey with Ulverston-based trainer Roger Fisher and had his first ride in public when unseated from Go On Joe at the last flight in the Embleton Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield on October 21, 1980.
He had his first victory at Ayr on March 16, 1981, when Sinbad, trained by Roger Fisher, took the lead between the last two flights and drew clear to win the Carcluie Opportunity Handicap Hurdle by three lengths. He followed that with success on Harpoonstown in the Breadalbane Novices’ Hurdle at Perth on April 29. The five-year-old was a 16/1 chance, having shown little in four previous starts that season.
Glynn had three wins the following campaign, starting with the most comfortable of them on Count Fernando by 25 lengths in the Rase Selling Hurdle at Market Rasen on Easter Monday. Chuckling Lad had a much harder battle, landing the Holsten Pils Handicap Hurdle at Southwell on May 29 by half a length, before the seven-year-old scored again at the last meeting of the season when landing the Sprite Long Distance Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen by three-quarters of a length.
He failed to ride a winner the next season but did have one more victory when Laugh-a-Minute led all the way to win the Blair Novices’ Hurdle at Ayr on October 8, 1983 by three lengths. Third place on the four-year-old four days later in the Craigie Novices’ Hurdle at Perth appears to have been his final ride.
