In the early 1980s, a line was put forward saying that the social role of art should be simply characterized this way: “art is entertainment.” This led to discussion and debate, and through this process the “art is entertainment” line was criticized and rejected. Since that time, there has been ongoing discussion among people about the social role of art.
Indeed, art is more than just entertainment. In its subtle means art has become a mirror of the past; an instrument of curiosity as to how our ancestors or simply those who came before us represent their era and their way of living.
