What is PLAGIARISM?

The word plagiarism has come from the Latin word ‘plagiarius,’ which means to kidnap. As the plagiarism definition suggests, when someone uses the work of another without properly citing the source or giving credit, then that will be an instance of plagiarism. Plagiarism is a punishable offense, and it is a form of intellectual theft.

How to avoid plagiarism?

Well, learn to cite sources to recognize the originator for whatever idea or information you are using for your own output.

For starters, let's begin with the APA (American Psychological Association). It is commonly used here in the Philippines.

CONGRATULATIONS!

THOUGHTS TO PONDER

You always hear me say, "You can Google that" because - let's face it - Google has a vast array of information that could potentially help us with our tasks. However, I do not mean to say "Copy from Google"; I mean to say "learn from Google" as it is essential in the process of your discovery. When you ask Google's help, doesn't mean you just copy and paste; it means to say, "Others think this way; how do you think?" If you can't help but use someone else's words it wouldn't kill you to cite his or her name because when you fail to do so, you seem to have stolen from her or him. Let us not let idleness and procrastination get the best of us. Be responsible and respectful.
