The definition of popular music is somewhat hard to grasp. It has an entertainment characteristic. Some scholars in the humanities say that popular music is an inferior type of music. Literally, popular music is music for the people because it Latin populous, from which the word popular is derived, means “ the people”. This kind of music is composed and published for the masses to make a profit. That is why it can be heard over the radio, television, and other similar media. During the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, it widely exists that people would love to listen more to recorded music in tapes, compact discs, and to watch music, videos than to go in concert halls to experience live music. However, there are also times that people would like to see their favorite singers perform live.
