This Brie, Apple, and Cranberry Grilled Cheese is a gourmet twist on the classic sandwich. It combines creamy brie, crisp Honeycrisp apples, and sweet-tart cranberry sauce, all nestled between slices of hearty sourdough bread. A unique touch of Sauvignon Blanc brushed on the bread adds an extra layer of flavor, making this sandwich a standout choice for a cozy lunch or a special treat.
4 sturdy slices of sourdough bread (avoid soft bread)
2 tablespoons butter
⅓ cup Sauvignon Blanc
8 ounces chilled brie (rind removed), cut into thin slices
1 medium Honeycrisp apple, cut into thin slices
½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce
Butter one side of each bread slice. On the opposite side, brush with Sauvignon Blanc.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place two slices of bread, butter-side-down, onto the skillet.
Top each with slices of brie, apple, and a generous spread of cranberry sauce.
Place the remaining bread slices on top, wine-brushed-side-down.
Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce heat to medium. Toast until the bottom is golden and the brie begins to melt.
Remove the lid, carefully flip the sandwiches, and toast the other side until golden brown.
Serve immediately, ideally with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
This sandwich pairs wonderfully with a crisp green salad or a warm bowl of soup. The inclusion of Sauvignon Blanc in the sandwich makes it a perfect match for a glass of the same wine, enhancing the overall dining experience.
