These three drawings were made from observing real objects. I tried to really capture the light and shadows in my still life, because I think that that makes things so much more realistic. In my self portrait I tried to capture the highlights on my face from the light to an extreme. In my drawing of the corner of the room I tried to capture the perspective from where I was sitting and the light in the corner.
For my self portrait I used graphite pencil, I used it because I feel comfortable with it, I know what happens when I press down hard versus just lightly shading. I also think I am able to add the most detail with graphite because you can sharpen the pencils to a tiny point in order to shade in the tiny areas. In my still life I used oil pastel, I used it because it is the easiest to blend colors with, and it looks good with white spots for highlights.
In my still life drawing I tried not to use any graphite pencil which is really hard because I know that I can't erase it. I tried to draw the general shape of things before I drew any details, for example I drew the face shape before I drew the eyes nose and mouth. I drew the shape of the fruit before I shaded and blended it.
