Sublimation print on 90% polyster shirt
The idea behind this work was similar to that of my SI #13, as I used that piece as a resource in this one. I wanted to show how jumbled and all over the place songs in my head can be, mixing with other songs, thoughts, and memories. I wanted to show all of these in one place and how with music, these things are still all there and all different, but somehow look beautiful together.
With this one, I used a sublimation print to put it onto a shirt and show those feelings that are usually inside my head, on the outside of my body.
I started with my collage from SI #13. I had to have a good photograph of it, and then I had Ms Medsker print it on a sublimation printer, which we don't have at school. I then had to go get a white polyester shirt, as the sublimation only sticks to polyester, so the higher the content, the better it will stick. The shirt I got is 90% polyester. I have another print though, and I want to try it on a shirt with less percent polyester as it will wash out and look kind of vintage, I think. With this one, I had to heat-press it into the shirt. It came out pretty well, although there are a couple of blurred spots, and it came out kind of green. I'm not sure about the green, but the blur, I think, came from not putting enough pressure on the heat press as it was curing.
