Lidded Jars

This project included the making of a set of lidded jars. My lidded jars are little frogs that their heads are the lids. I started with a block of clay and then I molded it into a little ball which then I used the pinch technique to make into a  tall slender pot. The first time I tried it the clay stretched more than I was expecting which resulted in a very large pot, so I scrapped it and started over. A few times I had to cut down the sides in order to make the pot a little more slender. I then had to add some extra clay on the inside of my first one because the walls were very thin. I then made the head and shaped it so that it fit well onto the bottom. I then rolled out the thin strips and attached them for the arms. After I had all that done I molded and attached the feet to the bottom and the eyes to the top of the head and made sure the lids fit on. I let them dry for a bit then used the dark green underglaze and the red underglaze to make the frogs green. After they were fired the first time I painted on a clear matte glaze to the frogs which gove them a dull milky look when fired. I chose to make frogs because I thought that a head and eyes would be perfect as lids and that adding the feet would work as a footer. I thought that overall these came out pretty well, I thought that the clear glaze was a little milky for my liking and the lids didn't fit quite as cleanly as I would have wanted but I think for the most part they came out well.
