Historical Pot Project

The assignment was to research a historical pot, then try to replicate the shape as closely as possible but contemporize the design that is on it. Mine was a coiled pot that looked pretty similar to the shape in my original photo, and then I chose to contemporize the design by making it a whole ocean scene.

I started with a couple coild, just wrapping them up and rolling them out and soon noticed it would be hard to follow the shape so I cut out a template that I could follow to help me keep the shape. One side fit the template great and the other sides were a little off. I ended up having to put a dot in the center to make sure my coils were being wrapped symmetrically since that proved to be an issue for me. After the form has been constructed and I had smoothed everything out along the way I attached the handles. It was then fired and it took me a lot longer to glaze than I thought it would.
