In this piece of art I was trying to see how I could incorporate my home and my feelings into a piece of art. I really wanted to start with a bust to represent a person (me) in maine, then it shrinks down into a heart which represents how my heart is in Maine. I have lived here my whole life and a piece of my heart will always be in this state. Then I just added some other small designs of common findings in Maine to just add a little more character and give it more of a flip book quality.

For the materials I used just this gazetteer and whatever material happens to be underneath it shows through the last heart so I suppose that is a part of the art although that will change depending on where the art is.  Paper was the only material used for this but it is a map so it was printed with ink so maybe that is a material, although it was already there. To create it, I used an exacto knife, a pencil, and a cutting board

To create this work I began by sketching a design on the first page and cutting it out with an exacto knife, I then traced the inside of that design onto the next page which made it the tinniest bit smaller. I would have continued with that if I had more time and paper, but I had to get to the ending shape that I wanted (a heart) by the end of the map so I had to trace inside of the cut lines by quite a bit towards the end.
