For this bowl I wanted to create something that seemed homey like a soup bowl or a mug and turn it into a pot of plants, Plants have always kind of given me this homey feeling, like anytime a room feels empty and sparse, plants are always the answer. So I wanted to recreate that feeling of hominess in the pot. The warmth from the sun, the cool rain, the joy of the pants, the cool night with the moon overhead.

The material I used in this were black underglaze and clay. I started with clay and just used my hands to mold it to the shape I wanted. It took several days to get it generally smoothe and the shape and thickness that I desired. Them I painted it with underglaze and began using different carving tools to scrape off the black and create a design.

I started out with the idea of creating a warm and cozy mug that I could multipurpose into both a tea mug and a plant pot and portray the same message but after several trys on getting the mug right i decided to scratch that and make a bowl instead. I was thinking maybe since it would be a bowl it wouldn't have a handle, but then somebody said that bowls were better with handles and that made me think. Why don't bowls have handles? So I decided to put a handle on it. Then I realized if it was going to be a plant pot it shoulf probably have the drainage hole in the bottom and therefore it could not be a soup bowl as well.
