Surrealism Painting

Acrylic on Canvas

The main idea of this work was to try to realistically represent the collage that I made. For the collage I kind of just wanted to make many different people doing different things, this work kind of shows the chaos of humans and human nature. How when we step back and look at it, humans or really weird. I wanted to make the collage rather complex to show chaos that you see when you just take a step back and look at the world. Though it was really hard to accurately paint, I felt I captured some elements really well.

For the collage I used several different magazines, the national geographic, rolling stone, and the living bird. I collaborated these different magazines with these vastly different magazines, to create one cohesive piece. For the painting I used acrylic paint to make an accurate representation of the original collage.

I began with a few magazines and I pretty much just went through five or six magazines and ripped out all the subjects, landscapes and colors that I found fascinating. I then placed them on the paper in the general formation that I wanted, I photographed that then began to glue. Just before I started painting, I looked at it and realized how much suffering I was about to put myself through with all the little details. So, I actually ripped the birds off and began to paint. Towards the end, class was coming to an end and I was tired of painting so I decided to omit the background and just paint it a solid color.
