To be a Melody

13"x 17"

Photoshop

The idea behind this work was to try to get teenagers applying for their driver's license to check the box that allows them to donate their organs once they die. I used my phrase "be the melody in someone's tune, with organ and tissue donation" to promote this message of donating organs and tissue through a fun activity such as music. I participate in many musical activities outside of school, both making and listening. I play cello which is a significant part of my life, and brings joy to the world, so I thought that it would be an appropriate message to bring joy to other's hearts as well. Along with making music I enjoy listening to music of all sorts, from rap to classical, I think that music is such an important way to bring people together through an art form so filled with emotion.

For this design I used Adobe photoshop. I have had troubles with this media before simply because of all of the new features that are unfamiliar to me. I am pretty new to this medium but I really like how it gives really solid colors that create a very steadfast design rather than drawing.

I started out with drawing over a my sketch for this project, but soon realized that I wanted to not have random lines in the background that I wasn't really planning on following anyway. So, I decided to discard the sketch background and just use the outlines of photos to create my instruments and notes, then fill in the background with some solid, calm but catching colors. I did have one mistake that I made in the precess which was putting the foreground objects on first which was the way my mind worked because I knew what I wasnted to do for the front but not the back. But later, this proved to be detrimental since I had to trace around each musical note with thin lines of the background color.
